Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Schedule With 9-0 Loss To BYU-Hawaii

The Gustavus women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 9-0 loss to #1-ranked Division II Brigham Young University-Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii on Saturday, February 9. The 11th-ranked Gusties were unable to pick up a single set against the Seasiders, who have won 62 consecutive dual matches.

Gustavus Adolphus senior women's basketball player Jess Vadnais has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Five College Division Third Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Trevor Wittwer’s Jumper With :07 Left Lifts Men’s Basketball Over Concordia 51-50

Senior captain Trevor Wittwer made a 15-foot turnaround jumper under heavy defensive pressure with :07 left in regulation play to help Gustavus claim an improbable 51-50 win over Concordia on Monday night in St. Peter. The Gusties who trailed 35-25 at halftime, limited the Cobbers to 15 points in the second half. Kane Sivesind and Jesse Van Sickle each scored 10 points to lead Gustavus.

Women’s Nordic Skiing Wins Minnesota Collegiate Championships; Men Finish Second

The Gustavus Adolphus women's Nordic ski team defended its team title at the Minnesota Collegiate Championships on Saturday, while the men's team finished in second place. The duo of Laura Edlund (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) and Sarah Willis (Sr., Willmar, Minn.) won the women's race nearly two minutes ahead of the second place team. The tandem of Jens Brabbit (Fy., Winona, Minn.) and Kevin Patzoldt (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) took second in the men's field.

Friedrich Named CCSA Women’s Nordic Ski Coach of the Year

Jed Friedrich of Gustavus Adolphus College has been named the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Women's Nordic Ski Coach of the Year based on an unanimous vote by CCSA coaches. Friedrich, a fourth-year coach at Gustavus, is a St. Cloud, Minn., native who skied at Northern Michigan University where he graduated from in 2003.

Hot Shooting Second Half Gives Women’s Basketball 76-67 Win Over Concordia

The Gustavus women's basketball team gained sole possession of third-place in the MIAC standings with a 76-67 win over Concordia at Gus Young Court on Monday night. The Gusties shot a blazing 62 percent from the field on 18-for-29 shooting, including 4-for-5 from behind the three-point arc. Gustavus moved to 15-7 overall and 14-5 in league play for third-place as Concordia dropped to 14-8 overall and 13-6 in the conference.

Men’s Basketball Falls To St. Thomas 76-68

The Gustavus men's basketball team made a furious rally in the second half cutting an 18 point lead to two points with four minutes left, however the Tommies made four clutch free throws in the final :30 seconds to hold on for the 76-68 victory. The Gusties needed a win to pull even with the Tommies atop the MIAC standings, however with the loss, Gustavus is now two-and-a-half games back with four games left to play. Andrew Doble led the Gusties with 23 points.

Nelson’s Career-High 16 Points Lift Women’s Basketball Over St. Thomas 55-52

Emily Nelson (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) scored a career-high 16 points as the Gustavus women's basketball team picked up a key 55-52 conference win over St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul. Nelson scored 11of her 16 points in the second half as the Gusties kept pace with Concordia for third-place in the conference standings. Gustavus improved to 14-7 overall and 13-5 in the MIAC, while St. Thomas fell to 15-6 overall and 14-4 in league play.

Special Teams Lift Women’s Hockey Over Saint Benedict 6-0

Special teams played a vital role in the Gustavus women's hockey team 6-0 against Saint Benedict on Wednesday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The Golden Gusties scored three power play goals and one short-handed goal to remain undefeated in conference play at 14-0-0 and improve to 19-2-0 overall. The Blazers fell to 4-12-2 overall and 4-8-2 in the MIAC.
