Men’s Nordic Skiing Begins Season With Optimism Saturday

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski team will open its season this weekend at Junior Olympic Qualifying races in Dresser, Wis. Saturday's action will feature a 1-kilometer freestyle sprint race, while Sunday's races will highlight a 1-kilometer classic sprint race. Gustavus starts the season with numerous new faces on a squad that finished sixth at the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Regional Championships a year ago.


Steve Wilkinson Named Recipient of USTA/ITA National Campus Recreation Award For Developing Tennis In The College Community

Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis coach Steve Wilkinson has been named the national winner of the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Campus Recreation Award. Wilkinson will be honored on December 15 at the ITA Coaches Convention at the Naples Grande Resort and Spa in Naples, Florida.


Gustavus Swimmers and Divers Increase Number of MIAC Top Times

The Gustavus men's and women's swimming and diving program increased its number of MIAC-best times in the pool as of November 26, 2007. Matt Stewart (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) has the three fastest times in the 100 freestyle (47.42), 200 freestyle (1:44.35), and 200 butterfly (1:56.17). Carrie Gundersen (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) owns the top times so far in the 500 freestyle (5:22.51) and 1000 freestyle (10:55.63).


Men’s Basketball Team Picks Up Impressive 68-56 Win Over Buena Vista

The Gustavus men's basketball team jumped out to an 11-point 19-8 lead in the first seven minutes of the game and never looked back on its way to a hard-fought 68-56 win over Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa on Tuesday night. The Gusties, who shot 49.0 percent (25-51) from the field, placed four players in double figures including Kane Sivesind (13), Jesse Van Sickle (13), Trevor Wittwer (12), and Andrew Doble (12).


Matt Stewart Named MIAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College junior Matt Stewart (Burnsville, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week for the week ending November 19, 2007. Stewart had a stellar meet this past Saturday as Gustavus won the Gustavus Triangular over Luther College and St. John's University in St. Peter. He took home first place in the 100 butterfly (52.55) and the 200 butterfly (1:56.17) and tied for first in the 500 freestyle (4:48.16).


Men’s Soccer Player Trevor Brown Named to Academic All-America Team By CoSIDA

Gustavus Adolphus College senior men's soccer player Trevor Brown (Madison, Wisc.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's Soccer Team as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Brown is a College Division Second Team selection.


Mari Gunderson Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College junior forward Mari Gunderson has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending November 19, 2007. Gunderson recored four goals and one assist to help the Gusties sweep Hamline in the MIAC opener.

Men’s Hockey Defeats Hamline 3-1, Salvages Weekend Split With Pipers

The Gusties scored twice in the third period and recorded an important 3-1 win over Hamline at Drake Arena in St. Paul on Saturday night. Gustavus got goals from Mitch Carlson, Patrick Dynan, and Joe Welch. Dynan tallied the gamewinner at 10:22 of the third period and Welch secured the win with a goal at the 19:46 mark. The Gusties improve to 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the MIAC.


Men’s and Women’s Swimming Win Gustavus Triangular

The Gustavus men's swimming team won its first competition of the season with 1,282 points over Luther (1,028) and St. John's (539) at the Lund Natatoruim in St. Peter on Saturday. The Golden Gustie women's swim team turned in its second consecutive victory with 1,289 points over St. Benedict (891) and Luther (764).


Men’s Basketball Drops Season Opener To Luther 60-58

The Gustavus men's basketball team lost its 2007-08 opener to Luther College 60-58 in St. Peter, Minn. Luther's Shane Daniels hit a driving layup with :03 left in regulation play to give the Norse the come-from-behind victory. Gustavus held a seven-point lead (53-46) with six minutes left to play, however Luther outscored the Gusties 14-5 the rest of the way to sneak away with the win. Trevor Wittwer led Gustavus with 15 points.
