Men’s Basketball Rallies From 12-Points Down to Defeat Springfield College 65-64

The Gustavus men's basketball team rallied from a 12-point second half deficit to claim a thrilling 65-64 win at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon. Jesse Van Sickle made one of two free throws with :21 left and the Gusties held on for the one-point victory. The Gusties, who have now won five straight games, improved to 6-2 overall.

Women’s Basketball Drops Another Heartbreaker, Falls to Maryville 68-64 in Overtime

The Gustavus women's basketball team lost to Maryville 68-64 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in the third place game of the Surf and Slam Tournament hosted by Point Loma University in San Diego, California. Maryville sent the game into overtime with a three-point basket with 1:33 left in regulation and then controlled the overtime leading by as many as eight points. Jess Vadnais led Gustavus with 12 points.

Women’s Basketball Drops 65-64 Heartbreaker To #23-Carroll

Kim Wickert hit the game-winning basket as time expired to give #23-Carroll College the 65-64 victory over the Gustavus women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in the semifinal round of the Surf'n Slam Tourney. The Gustie defense forced 23 turnovers, but Carroll shot 52% from the field in the victory.

Women’s Basketball Knocks Off #24-Wisconsin-Eau Claire 65-60 at Surf’n Slam

The Gustavus women's basketball team picked up its biggest win of the young season by knocking off #24-Wisconsin Eau-Claire 65-60 in the first round of the Surf'n Slam Tourney in San Diego, CA hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University. Gustavus outscored the Blugolds 34-23 in the second-half to overcome a six-point halftime deficit for the victory. Gustavus improved its record to 4-1, while Wisconsin-Eau Claire fell to 8-2.

Sablak’s Goal Lifts Women’s Hockey Over UW-Superior 2-1

Lisa Sablak's (Fy., South St. Paul, Minn.) fourth goal of the season helped the #8-Gustavus women's hockey team pick up its biggest win of the season in a 2-1 decision over #9-UW Superior on Friday night in St. Peter. The Golden Gusties outshot the Yellowjackets 44-8, but found themselves trailing 1-0 after the first period. UW-Superior lost its first game of the season when leading after the first period.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams Ranked Nationally By CollegeSwimming.com

The CollegeSwimming.com/Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has ranked both Gustavus men's and women's swimming and diving teams in its recent Division III Dual Meet Poll released on Wednesday. The Golden Gustie men and women are ranked 11th and 24th, respectively, in the poll.

Men’s Basketball Uses Late Run To Claim 88-76 Win Over Bethany Lutheran

The Gustavus men's basketball team outscored Bethany Lutheran College 17-8 over the final four minutes of the game, including 11-of-14 shooting from the free throw line in the final two minutes, to claim a hard-fought 88-76 non-conference win at home on Wednesday night. Trevor Wittwer had a big night for Gustavus as he scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Men’s Hockey Stumbles To 5-1 Loss At Saint John’s

The Gustavus men's hockey team scored a power play goal :51 seconds into the contest to take a 1-0 lead, but then got dominated the rest of the game as the Johnnies outshot the Gusties 44-18 on their way to a convincing 5-1 win in St. Cloud, Minn. Mitch Carlson scored the lone goal for Gustavus.

Nordic Skiers Perform Well At Trollhaugen Classic Sprints

The Gustavus men's and women's Nordic ski teams had strong showings at the first event of the season with six top-three finishes at the Trollhaugen Classic Sprints in Dresser, Wis. on December 8-9. Saturday's races consisted of 1.3 km classic sprint races, while 1.3 km freestyle classic sprint races were held on Sunday. Kathleen DeWahl (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) turned in the best performances of the weekend as she won both classic and freestyle races in the Women's Senior Division.
