Men’s Soccer Wins Third Straight; Downs Nebraska Wesleyan 3-0

Gustavus men's soccer defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties scored about 11 minutes into the game and never looked back. Matt Broin scored the first and third goals for Gustavus, while Jeffrey Johnson notched the second goal. The Gusties extended their current three-game winning streak and remain undefeated this season with a record of 3-0-1. The Prairie Wolves fall to 1-2-0 on the season.

Volleyball Finishes Second at Sugarloaf Invitational

The Gustavus volleyball team defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 3-1 and then lost to Wartburg 3-1 on the second day of the Sugarload Invitational hosted by St. Mary's University in Winona, Minn. Jennifer Thelemann and Andrea Kron were named to the All-Tournament team.

Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Augsburg Invitational

In its first competition of the fall, the Gustavus men's golf team place two teams in the top five Sunday at the Augsburg Invitational at Minnesota Dunes Golf Course in Cottage Grove. The Gold team finished third with a score of 300-304--604, while the Black team finished fifth with a score of 316-303--619. Juniors Jordan Hawkinson (Gustavus Gold) and Eric Harris (Gustavus Black) each tied for eighth with a 36-hole total of 149 to rank as the top Gusties on the medalist leaderboard.

Women’s Soccer Falls to Nebraska Wesleyan 3-2 in Overtime

Gustavus women's soccer lost to Nebraska Wesleyan 3-2 in overtime Sunday afternoon in St. Peter. The Prairie Wolves didn't hold a lead in the game until scoring the game-winner with just under three minutes to play in overtime. Chelsea Craven scored both of the Gustavus goals but they weren't enough to get the Gusties a win.

Men’s Cross Country Finishes Second at UW-River Falls Invitational

The Gustavus men's cross country team opened its 2006 season with a second place finish at the four team University of River Falls Invitational. The Gusties scored 48 points, while host UW-River Falls finished first with 23 points. Dan Foley finished second individually for Gustavus with a time of 27:08.7 over the 8,000 meter course.

Women’s Golf Finishes Third at Concordia Invitational

The Gustavus Adolphus women's golf team captured third place Sunday at the Concordia Invitational held at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn. The Gusties shot 325-335--660 to finish 16 shots back of champion North Dakota State (319-325--644) and 11 shots back of University of North Dakota (322-327--649). Sophomore Rachel Roberg (Rice Lake, Wis.) finished second overall after posting a final round 79 for a 36-hole total of 157.

Football Opens Season With 35-7 Win at Willamette (Ore.)

The Gustavus Adolphus football team opened the 2006 season in exciting fashion Saturday with a 35-7 road victory over Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Running back Adam Lukes (So., Watertown, Minn.) ran for three scores, while junior quarterback Jordan Stolp (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) found receiver Chad Arlt (So., St. Michael, Minn.) for two others.

Men’s Soccer Wins Home Opener 3-0 Against Simpson

Gustavus men's soccer won 3-0 in its home opener against Simpson College on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties were ahead 1-0 after 45 minutes of play but in the second half they showcased their offense and expanded the lead to 3-0. Alex Groth (Sr., Waupaca, Wisc.) and Gabe Joyes (Jr., Stoughton, Wisc.) both had a goal and an assist in the game for Gustavus.

Women’s Soccer Drops Home Opener 1-0 to Grinnell

Gustavus women's soccer fell to Grinnell College 1-0 in its home opener on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. Both teams were deadlocked at 0-0 after 45 minutes of play. The Gusties had the majority of scoring chances throughout the game, but it was the Pioneers who were able to score the lone goal of the game. Gustavus falls to 2-1-0 on the season, while Grinnell's record improves to 2-0-1.

Women’s Golf Fifth at Cobber Open

The Gustavus Adolphus women's golf team finished fifth Friday at the Cobber Open after posting a 18-hole team score of 334 at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn. Junior Rachel Roberg shot the low round for Gustavus with a ninth-place round of 79. The Gusties continue play at Wildflower this weekend at the Concordia Invitational. First-round play is scheduled to begin Saturday at 12:30 pm with Sunday's final round beginning with a 9 am shotgun start.
