Men’s Soccer Defeats St. Mary’s 2-1

The Gustavus men's soccer team used a goal by Dan Suchy in the first half and a goal by Mike Butterworth in the second half to defeat St. Mary's University 2-1 in St. Peter on Tuesday afternoon. Suchy's goal came in the 13th minute with an assist from Jeffrey Johnson, while Butterworth's goal in the 67th minute was unassisted. The Cardinals tallied a goal in the 75th minute to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Gusties held on for the win.

Hailey Harren Named MIAC Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College cross country runner Hailey Harren has been named Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the week ending Sept. 25, 2006. Harren captured the title in the Division III Maroon race at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota in a time of 22:06, outdistancing the nearest competitor by over a minute.

Men’s Golf Third After Day One at UW-Eau Claire

The Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team sits third after Sunday's first round of the Frank Wrigglesworth UWEC Collegiate at the Eau Claire Country Club. The Gusties (297) trail host UW-Eau Claire (296) by a stroke and day one leader Saint John's (292) by five. Jordan Hawkinson is tied for sixth place after an opening round 73. The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Monday.

Men’s Golf Fourth at UW-Eau Claire Invite

The Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team finished its pre-MIAC Championship schedule Monday with a fourth-place finish at the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate hosted by UW-Eau Claire. Gustavus posted a two-day team total of 599. Jordan Hawkinson finished tied for seventh with a score of 73-74--147 to lead the Gusties.

Klein Named MIAC Volleyball Player of the Week

Gustavus sophomore libero Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Setter/Libero of the Week by the MIAC volleyball coaches. Klein averaged 7.38 digs per game as the Gusties went 3-0 on the week including an important 3-2 win over #16 Carleton.

Men’s Tennis Opens Season at Drake Invitational

The Gustavus Adolphus men's tennis team opened its fall season at the six-team Drake Invitatoinal in Des Moines, Iowa. Andy Bryan and Jesse Brauer reached the consolation final of A Flight Singles Tournament, while Chad Olson and Ben Tomasek reached the consolation final of the B Flight Singles Tournament. The doubles team of Mike Burdakin and Charlie Paukert advanced to the quarterfinal round of the doubles draw. The Gusties were the only non-scholarship program in the tournament.

Volleyball Team Defeats St. Kate’s 3-1 For Sixth Straight Win

The Gustavus volleyball team continued its winning ways with a convincing 3-1 (31-29, 30-22, 31-33, 30-19) win over the College of St. Catherine on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul. The Gusties are now 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC.

Women’s Golf Wins Division III Midwest Classic

The Gustavus Adolphus women's golf team edged Wartburg by a single stroke (334-335) Sunday to capture the Division III Midwest Classic. Gustavus' Breanne Staples captured medalist honors with a 77 on a very challenging layout at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, Wis. The tournament was shortened to 18 holes after Saturday's first round was washed out by inclement weather.

Lauren Hom, Sierra Krebsbach Finish Second in Doubles at ITA Midwest Regional

Senior Lauren Hom and first year Sierra Krebsbach lost a heartbreaking match in the finals of the doubles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region Tournament hosted by Luther College. Hom and Krebsbach, who were seeded second, lost to top-seeded Amanda Santa Romana and Elicza Buys of Carthage 9-8 (7-5 in the tiebreaker).

Men’s Cross Country Places 28th out of 52 Teams at the Griak Invitational

The Gustavus men's cross country team finished 28th out of 52 teams in a very strong field at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and run at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
