Women’s Tennis to Host NCAA Opening Rounds May 5-6

Gustavus Adolphus College has been chosen as one of eight regional sites to host first- and second-round competition in the 2006 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. Wheaton (Ill.) meets the University of Chicago in a first-round matchup Friday, May 5 at 3 p.m. with the winner meeting Gustavus Saturday, May 6 at noon. The winner of the final earns a berth in the quarterfinal round of the team championships slated for May 17-19 at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Hokenson Second, Bittman Third After Day One of MIAC Multi-Event Track Championships

Gustavus junior Jered Hokenson sits second in the men's decathlon, while senior Blythe Bittman is third in the women's heptathlon following day one of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Multi-Event Championships Thursday at Carleton's Laird Stadium in Northfield. Hokenson has 3087 total points through five of ten events, while Bittman has 2426 total points through four of seven events. The Multi-Event Championships conclude Friday.

Baseball Team Sweeps Bethel 10-3 and 6-2 to Extend Win Streak to Nine Games

The Gustavus baseball team moved closer to clinching a MIAC Tournament berth with an important double-header sweep against Bethel in Arden Hills Tuesday afternoon. The Gusties won game one 10-3 and then claimed game two 6-2. Gustavus will host Carleton Wednesday afternoon. The Gusties can clinch a playoff spot with a sweep against the Knights.

Shanna Dawson Named MIAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore jumper/vaulter Shanna Dawson (Fairmont, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 30, 2006. Dawson met an NCAA national provisional mark in the pole vault at the Drake Alternative Meet hosted by Gustavus last Saturday. Her mark of 3.45 meters (11' 3 3/4") ranks her first in the MIAC.

Baseball Takes Pair From Carleton, Locks Up MIAC Playoff Berth

The Gustavus baseball team extended its winning streak to 11 games and locked up one of four spots in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball playoffs with a sweep of Carleton Wednesday afternoon. The Gusties took game one 9-5 and completed the sweep with a 18-8 win in game two. Sophomore catcher Shea Roehrkasse batted 3-for-6 on the day, including a pair of home runs and five RBI in game two.

Softball Team Sweeps Saint Ben’s, Earn’s #2 Seed in MIAC Tournament

The Gustavus softball team claimed an important sweep against the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. on Tuesday afternoon. The Gusties won game one 4-0 and game two 5-2. Gustavus finishes MIAC regular season play with a record of 19-3 and earns the #2 seed in this weekend's MIAC Tournament after winning a tiebreaker with Saint Mary's.

Softball Sweeps Martin Luther in Non-Conference Doubleheader

The Gustavus softball team improved its record to 24-7 with a doubleheader sweep of Martin Luther College in St. Peter on Monday afternoon. The Gusties won game one 10-0 in five innings and then claimed game two 10-3 in seven innings. Gustavus has now won eight staight non-conference games after opening the season with four losses.

Men’s and Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Tennis Selected For 2006 NCAA Championships

The Gustavus men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis teams have been selected to participate in the 2006 NCAA Division III Championships in their respective sports. The women's tennis team will kick things off, hosting opening round play May 5-6, while the men's tennis team will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin for opening round play May 6-7. The men's golf team will compete May 8-11 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The women's golf team will compete May 9-12 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

Softball Will Play Martin Luther Today at 4:00 pm

The Gustavus women's softball team will host Martin Luther College today (Monday, May 1) at 4:00 pm. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, May 2).
