Men’s Basketball Downs St. Olaf 77-67

The Gustavus men's basketball team started out Wednesday's game on a 13-0 run and never looked back en route to a 77-67 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over St. Olaf on Gus Young Court. Senior Adam TeBrake led the Gusties with 14 points. With the win, Gustavus moves to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC, while St. Olaf falls to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

Nordic Skiing Opens Season at U.S. Nationals

The Gustavus nordic skiing teams opened their 2006 seasons at the United States Ski Association (USSA) United States Cross Country National Championships at Soldier Hollow Ski Area near Salt Lake City, Utah. The U.S. Nationals serves as the first of five Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) qualifiers for the 2006 NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships.

Women’s Basketball Beats St. Olaf 82-55

Gustavus junior Bri Monahan scored a career-high 32 points to help the Gusties beat St. Olaf 82-55 on Gus Young Court in St. Peter on Wednesday. Monahan became the first Gustavus women's basketball player in 14 years to score 30 points in a game. With the win, Gustavus extended its winning streak to four games and improved to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the MIAC, while St. Olaf dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the MIAC.

Vadnais Named MIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus sophomore guard Jess Vadnais has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8, 2006. Vadnais led the Gusties to a pair of conference victories this past week, averaging 20.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in wins over Saint Mary's and Bethel.

Idris Named MIAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore forward Sami Idris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Burgarden) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8, 2006. Idris scored a goal and five assists for six points as the Gusties swept Lawrence (5-2) and UM-Crookston (10-2) this weekend in the Gustavus Hockey Showcase. He is the third straight Gustie to be named MIAC Player of the Week after Keith Detlefsen (Dec. 5) and Mike Hosfield (Dec. 12).

2006 Nordic Skiing Preview

The Gustavus Adolphus men's and women's Nordic skiing teams will open their 2006 seasons by hitting the course at Soldier Hollow, Utah for the USSA U.S. Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8. Soldier Hollow played host to the skiing competition during the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games. Women's 10K and men's 15K races using the Classic discipline will be contested on Saturday, while races using the Freestyle discipline will be held on Sunday.

Men’s Hockey Closes Showcase With 10-2 Win Over UM-Crookston

The Gustavus men's hockey team extended its winning streak to six games with a 10-2 win over Minnesota-Crookston in the final game of the Gustavus Hockey Showcase. Gustavus, now 9-2 overall, got two goals each from Mike Hosfield, Cody Drysdale and Loren Havemeier and five assists from Sami Idris. St. Olaf won the afternoon's first game, 5-2, over Lawrence.

Men’s Hockey Downs Lawrence 5-2 in Showcase

Led by a pair of goals by sophomore forward Ben Ollila, the Gustavus men's hockey team picked up its fifth straight victory, downing Lawrence 5-2 on Saturday in St. Peter as part of the Gustavus Hockey Showcase. Gustavus improves to 8-2 overall, while Lawrence falls to 3-7-2. St. Olaf and UM-Crookston played to a 4-4 tie in the Showcase's other game on Saturday.

Gymnastics Team Defeats UW-Whitewater in Season Opener

The Gustavus women's gymnastics team edged UW-Whitewater 168.50 to 168.35 in Whitewater, Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon. Junior Brittany Moore won the vault (9.30), first year Laura Hansen won the uneven bars (8.80) and sophomore Kelsie Droogsma won the balance beam (8.80). As a team, the Gusties scored 43.875 on the vault, 40.675 on the uneven bars, 41.85 on the balance beam and 42.10 on the floor exercise.

Men’s Basketball Falls to Bethel 78-63

The Gustavus men's basketball team suffered a disappointing 78-63 loss to Bethel University at Gus Young Court on Saturday afternoon. The Royals jumped out to an early 13-7 lead and never looked back as they handed the Gusties their third conference loss of the year. Trevor Wittwer and Adam TeBrake led Gustavus in scoring with 14 points each.
