Women’s Tennis Wins 11-Team Midwest Invitational

The Gustavus women’s tennis team won the 11-team Midwest Invitational with a 5-3 win over DePauw University (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon in Madison, Wisconsin. The Gusties had advanced to the final with a 5-1 win over Washington University (Mo.) on Saturday morning. Due to time constraints on the tennis facility both matches were halted once one of the teams scored the decisive fifth point. Doubles were not played in the Washington Univ. match because Gustavus reached five points after the singles matches were played. Gustavus is now 19-2 on the season.

Gustavus 5 DePauw 3 (Championship Match)

1. Liz Bondi (DU) defeated Tara Houlihan (GA) 6-0, 6-2
2. Lauren Hom (GA) defeated Amrita Padda (DU) 6-1, 6-2
3. Kara Smiley (GA) defeated Alex Nelson (DU) 6-3, 6-3
4. Lyndsey Palen (GA) defeated Erin Andrade (DU) 6-2, 6-0
5. Jaime Gaard (GA) was leading Claire Ellis (DU) 6-4, 4-4, Did Not Finish
6. Marla Menne (GA) defeated Connie Shim (DU) 1-6, 6-3, 10-7

1. Bondi/Jill Anderson (DU) defeated Houlihan/Palen (GA) 8-5
2. Smiley/Hom (GA) defeated Ellis/Padda (DU) 8-1
3. Nelson/Shim (DU) defeated Menne/Jenni White (GA) 8-6

Gustavus 5 Washington University 1 (Semifinal Match)

1. Tara Houlihan (GA) defeated Lauren Zwick (WU) 6-4, 6-4
2. Lauren Hom (GA) defeated Kacie Cook (WU) 6-2, 6-0
3. Kara Smiley (GA) defeated Erica Greenberg (WU) 7-5, 6-4
4. Lyndsey Palen (GA) defeated Erin Fleming (WU) 6-3, 6-2
5. Sara Kabakoff (WU) defeated Jaime Gaard (GA) 6-4, 4-6, 10-4
6. Marla Menne (GA) defeated Ashley Cook (WU) 6-1, 6-2
