The No. 8 Gustavus men's tennis team had a busy day after playing four matches at the Swanson Tennis Center on Saturday in St. Peter. The Gusties defeated UW-Whitewater, University of Sioux Falls, Saint John's and Saint Mary's by identical 9-0 scores to improve to 16-4 overall and remain perfect in conference play at 6-0. The Gustavus men's basketball team outscored Saint John's 8-0 in the last 3:43 to pull out a 71-68 come-from-behind victory in the first round of the MIAC playoffs on Monday night in Collegeville. The Gustie offense hit 57 percent of its shots from the floor, but it was the defense down the stretch that proved to be the difference in the contest. Gustavus, which improved to 13-13 overall, earned the right to face St. Thomas in the semifinal round on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul.

The Gustavus men's basketball team's offensive woes continued on Saturday as the Gusties fell to Saint John's 71-60 in Collegeville in the final game of the regular season. The Gusties managed just 22 points in the first half and trailed by 13 at halftime. Sam Paulson recorded his first double-double of the season and second of his career with a game-high 17 points and 13 boards. Gustavus dropped to 12-13 overall and 11-9 in the MIAC, while the Johnnies improved to 14-11 overall and 12-8 in the league.

Sophomore point guard Dan Schmidtknecht hit a pair of layups down the stretch to help the Gustavus men's basketball team defeat Saint John's 68-62 on Monday night at Gus Young Court. The Gusties overcame a five-point halftime deficit by shooting 50.0 percent in the second half and holding the Johnnies to 33.3 percent from the floor.
