The Gustavus Adolphus College women's track and field team opened their outdoor season Friday, April 6, with a fourth place finish at the Central (Iowa) Invitational in Pella, Iowa. Gustavus finished with 99.5 points, while Simpson edged Hastings out 183.5-177.5 for the team title. Sophomore Lisa Brown provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships with a 134-01 effort in the javelin throw, placing second.

Hastings College scored 174 points to run away with the team title, followed by Iowa Central Community College (118), host Central (89), and Gustavus (80.5). Alex Zupan won the 1500 and 5000 races to lead the Gusties, who host the Lee Krough Invitational Saturday, April 14.
The Gustavus women's indoor track and field team competed at Parents' Day Open hosted by the University of Minnesota. Competing against athletes from all three divisions of the NCAA, the Gusties came away with seven top ten finishes, led by Jill Fagerstrom's fifth place in the 5000-meter run (19:13.42) and Sari Lindeman's sixth place in the long jump (16-8 1/2).
The Gustavus Adolphus indoor track and field teams made the short trek to Mankato Saturday to take part in the MSU Open hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato. Andy Klaers won the weight throw with a toss of 54 feet, 5.5 inches. No team scores were kept.

Sari Lindeman set a new mark in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 5 3/4 inches, while Jered Hokenson cleared 6 feet, 5 inches during the high jump portion of the indoor pentathlon competition.
The Gustavus men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their seasons Thursday night by hosting athletes from Martin Luther, Minnesota State Mankato and Trinity Bible College in the 2006 Gustie Open. Senior Blythe Bittman picked up a pair of wins (55 dash and long jump) and a runner-up finish (high jump) individually to lead the Gusties.
