Jens Brabbit, Anders Bowman Lead Nordic Ski Team At CCSA Freestyle Race At Camp Ripley

The Gustavus men's nordic ski team wrapped up its weekend of skiing at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minn. with a solid team performance in the 20K Freestyle race. Jens Brabbit paced the Gusties with a 12th place finish in a time of 48:34, while Anders Bowman finished 14th in a time of 48:46.

Women’s Nordic Skiing Wins Minnesota Collegiate Championships; Men Finish Second

The Gustavus Adolphus women's Nordic ski team defended its team title at the Minnesota Collegiate Championships on Saturday, while the men's team finished in second place. The duo of Laura Edlund (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) and Sarah Willis (Sr., Willmar, Minn.) won the women's race nearly two minutes ahead of the second place team. The tandem of Jens Brabbit (Fy., Winona, Minn.) and Kevin Patzoldt (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) took second in the men's field.

Jens Brabbit turned in two top 25 finishes to help the Gustavus men's nordic ski team earn sixth place at the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Qualifier held in Marquette, Mich. on January 19-20. The Gusties posted 84 points in the 10K freestyle and 15K classic races behind first place Northern Michigan University with 154 points.

The Gustavus nordic ski teams combined for a 14th place finish in the College Cup at the United States Cross Country Ski Championships in Houghton, Michigan. The Golden Gusties also finished fifth among Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) schools. Northern Michigan University took first place for the second straight year nationally and in the CCSA. Final standings for the College Cup were determined with results from each school's top three skiers in each gender comprising an overall score.

Nordic Skiing Performs Well In Classic Course At U.S. Nationals

Distance competition concluded Thursday with classis races at the United States Cross Country Skiing Championships at the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center in Houghton, Mich. Kathleen DeWahl (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) was the top female performer finished in 70th place (ninth among Central Collegiate Ski Association skiers). Jens Brabbit (Fy., Winona, Minn.) was the top skier for the Gustavus men as he finished in 135th place and 25th among CCSA skiers.

Nordic Skiers Perform Well At Trollhaugen Classic Sprints

The Gustavus men's and women's Nordic ski teams had strong showings at the first event of the season with six top-three finishes at the Trollhaugen Classic Sprints in Dresser, Wis. on December 8-9. Saturday's races consisted of 1.3 km classic sprint races, while 1.3 km freestyle classic sprint races were held on Sunday. Kathleen DeWahl (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) turned in the best performances of the weekend as she won both classic and freestyle races in the Women's Senior Division.

Nordic Skiing Finishes 12th in College Cup at U.S. Nationals

Led by a strong showing by the women's team, the Gustavus Nordic skiing finished 12th in the College Cup at the U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships this past weekend in Houghton, Mich. The Gusties finished with 404 points, four back of Western State (Colo.) and six back of defending NCAA Skiing Champion University of Colorado. Northern Michigan edged the Dartmouth Outing Club, 790-757, for the title.

The Gustavus Nordic ski team capped off an exciting weekend of action at the NorAm SuperTour stop at Telemark Resort in Cable, Wis. Senior Erich Ziegler opened the weekend with a 19th-place finish among collegiate skiers in Saturday's 10K Classic and followed that up with a first-place finish among collegiate skiers in Sunday's 15K Freestyle. Ziegler's win was the first by a Gustavus skier in a NCAA/CCSA qualifier.

Minnesota Collegiate Nordic Ski Championship Cancelled

The Minnesota Collegiate Nordic Ski Championship scheduled for Saturday, January 15 and Sunday, January 16 in St. Cloud, Minn. has been cancelled due to cold weather conditions.

Jed Friedrich Named Head Coach for Nordic Ski and Cross Country Teams

Jed Friedrich, a native of St. Cloud, Minnesota and 2003 graduate of Northern Michigan University, has been named the head men's and women's cross country coach and head men's and women's nordic skiing coach.
