Sari Lindeman, Drew Hood Named MIAC Field Athletes of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College track and field athletes Sari Lindeman (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) and Drew Hood (Jr., Mankato, Minn./West) have been recognized as MIAC Field Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 29, 2007. Lindeman (triple jump) and Hood (pole vault) each provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships during Saturday's Drake Alternative Meet in St. Peter.

No. 2 Women’s Hockey Tripped Up By No. 7 UW-Stevens Point 4-1 in NCAA Quarterfinal

The No. 2 Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey team fell to No. 7 UW-Stevens Point 4-1 in a NCAA Quarterfinal game Saturday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. Michelle Grossman scored a goal and an assist to lead the Pointers (19-6-2), who advance to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Championships in Plattsburgh, New York, where they will meet No. 3 Middlebury Friday evening. Gustavus (25-3-0) avoided the shutout with a goal by Stefanie Ubl with 5:59 to play.

Klaers, Castellano Fourth at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Gustavus seniors Andy Klaers and Janna Castellano both picked up fourth place finishes Friday at the 2007 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held in the Sports and Recreation Center on the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. Klaers posted a personal-best throw of 58-8 in the weight throw, while Castellano broke her own school record with a 12-3 1/2 effort in the pole vault. Klaers and Castellano receive All-America honors by finishing in the top eight.

First Round NCAA Women’s Hockey Game to be Video Streamed Over the Internet

Saturday's NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship First Round game between Gustavus Adolphus and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will be video streamed over the Internet. The game, which will be played at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, will begin at 2 p.m. Tom Wheeler will handle play-by-play duties for the broadcast, which can be accessed through the live broadcasts link on the Gustavus Athletics Web site.

Nordic Skiing Competes in Classic at Telemark NCAA Qualifier; Team Finishes Fourth

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski team wrapped up their weekend at the CCSA/NCAA Qualifier at Telemark Resort near Cable, Wis., by competing in classic technique races. The Gustavus women placed four in the top 25 overall, led by Sarah Willis in 19th place. The Gustavus men were led by Scott Kyser, who finished 52nd overall.

Lisa Brown Wins Javelin Throw at NCAA Championships; Cronen and Miest Earn All-America Honors

Gustavus Adolphus first-year Lisa Brown captured the national title in the javelin throw Saturday at the 2006 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. Brown's Division III season best toss of 154 feet, 6 inches bettered her own Gustavus record by nearly 18 feet. Ashley Cronen (fifth) and Tanner Miest (eighth) added top-eight finishes in the 800-meter run and the 110-meter hurdles, respectively.

Houlihan and Palen Repeat as NCAA Division III Women’s Doubles Champions

The Gustavus Adolphus women's tennis doubles team of Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen successfully defended their Division III doubles crown Monday evening with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over DePauw's Liz Bondi and Amrita Padda at the 2006 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in Santa Cruz, California. Houlihan and Palen become only the fifth doubles tandem to repeat in the 25-year history of the Division III championships.

The Gustavus Adolphus doubles team of seniors Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen advanced to the championship final of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships with a pair of wins Sunday in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Gustie tandem will face DePauw's Liz Bondi and Amrita Padda in Monday's final.

Five Track and Field Athletes Qualify for NCAA Championships

The Gustavus Adolphus track and field team has had five individuals selected for the 2006 NCAA Divsion III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Tanner Miest (110 hurdles), Andy Klaers (discus throw), Kourtney Joyce (3000 steeplechase), Ashley Cronen (800 meter run), and Lisa Brown (javelin throw) will represent Gustavus May 25-27 at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

Women’s Tennis Results From Opening Day of NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

The Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis program saw its doubles team of Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Doubles Championship being played at the University of California, Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, California. Houlihan, also competing in singles, bowed out of the singles draw in the second round following a three-set first-round win.
