Women’s 200 Free Relay Finishes 10th At NCAA Championships

The Gustavus women’s swimming 200 freestyle relay team took 10th place Thursday at the NCAA Division III Championships, earning All-America Honorable Mention status. The team of Kennedy Holwerda (Sr., Willmar, Minn.), Maggie Webster (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.), Alyssa Lokensgard (So., St. Peter, Minn.), and Kate Reilly (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) clocked a time of 1:33.88 in the consolation final.

Women’s Swimmers Finish Top-25 In Two Events At NCAA Championships

The NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships began Wednesday and the Gustavus women competed in two events. Kate Reilly (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) and Maggie Webster (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) raced in the 50 freestyle, while Kennedy Holwerda (Sr., Willmar, Minn.), Reilly, Webster, and Maddy Westendorp (So., St. Michael, Minn.) competed in the 200 medley relay.

Six Gusties To Represent Gustavus At NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

The Gustavus swimming team will be well-represented at the NCAA Division III Championships this week, which takes place Wednesday through Saturday at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Kennedy Holwerda (Sr., Willmar, Minn.), Alyssa Lokensgard (So., St. Peter, Minn.), Kate Reilly (Sr., Hastings, Minn.), Maggie Webster (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.), and Madeline Westendorp (So., St. Michael, Minn.) represent the women’s team, and Tanner Sonnek (Jr., North Mankato, Minn.) represents the men’s squad.

Women’s Hoops Set For Sweet Sixteen Matchup Versus Thomas More

The Gustavus women’s basketball team is set to take on No. 3-ranked Thomas More College in the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The four-team sectional round is hosted by Hope College in Holland, Mich. Hope will host Christopher Newport University at 6:30 p.m. Friday and the winners will face each other at 6 p.m. Saturday, with the winner advancing to the Final Four in Rochester, Minn. on March 16-17. 

Seniors Lead Gustavus Women’s Basketball To NCAA Tournament Win Over Rose-Hulman

Friday evening’s NCAA women’s basketball opening round matchup between Gustavus and Rose-Hulman lived up to the moniker of “March Madness” with the game going down to the wire, but in the end the Gusties came out on top 60-52 to claim their first NCAA tournament win since 2003. The Gusties started the game with a 17-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game and never trailed. Gustavus advances to the round of 32 tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Sadie Klug Takes 64th At NCAA Cross Country Championships

Gustavus senior cross country runner Sadie Klug (Waseca, Minn.) competed at the NCAA Championships Saturday, hosted by Principia College, and took 64th place (out of 279 runners) with a career-best time of 21:57.8. Klug’s time is the ninth best 6K finish in program history as the top eight times are all owned by Hailey Harren ’07, who won the NCAA individual championship in 2005 with a time of 21:52.9.

Volleyball’s NCAA Run Ends At Elite 8

The Gustavus volleyball team's memorable NCAA tournament run came to end Thursday in the national quarterfinals, losing in four sets to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Gusties won the first set convincingly 25-16, but dropped the next three 25-17, 25-16, and 25-14 to end their season with a 26-7 overall record. 

PREVIEW: Volleyball Prepares For NCAA Quarterfinal Against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

It all comes down to this week. There's not a whole lot of preparation time left before the Gustavus volleyball team puts its athletic ability to the test in the NCAA quarterfinals. The opponent is Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, winner of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) playoff and champion of the Georgetown Regional. The Gusties and Athenas square off at 2 p.m. (CST) Thursday at Van Noord Arena on the campus of Calvin College. 

Hensch Takes 17th In Javelin At NCAA Championships

Gustavus men’s throwing specialist Michael Hensch (So., North Branch, Minn.) took 17th place in the javelin Thursday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. Hensch’s throw registered at 182-10. Seth Nonnenmacher, a junior from George Fox, won the event with a heave of 227-1 setting a new stadium record at the SPIRE Institute.

Women’s Tennis Defeats Kenyon 5-3, Advances To NCAA Regional Final

The No. 38-ranked Gustavus women’s tennis team defeated Kenyon College 5-3 on Saturday afternoon to advance to a NCAA Regional Final match for the first time since 2010.
