Janey Helland and Whitaker Davis Celebrated As 2010-11 Student Athletes of the Year

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has announced the 2010-11 Female and Male Athletes of the Year and they are Janey Helland, a track and field competitor from Mapleton, Minnesota and Whitaker Davis, a swimmer from Palatine, Illinois.

Janey Helland Wins National Title In Heptathlon!!

For the second year in a row, the Gustavus track and field program has crowned a national champion in dramatic fashion. This year, it is senior Janey Helland, who came from behind in the final event to win the NCAA Division III national title in the heptathlon, following last year's dramatic finish by Max Hanson to win the 800 meter national title.

Helland, Broderius, and Voss Selected To Compete in NCAA Track and Field Meet

Gustavus Adolphus College senior women's track and field competitors Janey Helland, Sam Broderius and Allyson Voss have been selected to participate in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Helland will compete in the long jump and heptathlon, while Broderius will compete in the discus and Voss in the pole vault.

Janey Helland Named Central Region Field Athlete Of The Year

Gustavus Adolphus senior track and field athlete Janey Helland (Mapleton, Minn.) has been named the Central Region Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Helland, who earns Field Athlete of the Year honors for the second consecutive season, will compete in the long jump and heptathlon competitions at the 2011 NCAA DIII Track and Field Championships on May 26-28 in Delaware, Ohio.

Women’s Track and Field In First Place After Day One Of MIAC Championships

The Gustavus women’s track and field team is the current leader with 56.5 points following day one of competition at the 2011 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College May 13-14 in St. Peter, Minn. Concordia sits in second place with 46 points, while St. Thomas is in third with 40.5 points.

Gustavus Adolphus senior Janey Helland successfully defended her title in the MIAC Heptathlon, winning the event with 4,595 points on Friday in Northfield, Minn. Erica Roelofs and Laura Secor rounded out Gustavus' top competitors in fifth and tenth place, respectively.

Janey Helland Finishes Fifth In Heptathlon At Drake Relays

Gustavus Adolphus senior track and field standout Janey Helland earned a total of 4,735 points to finish fifth in the heptathlon at the Drake Relays held in Des Moines, Iowa. Helland is the first Gustavus athlete to compete in the heptathlon at the meet. Her score automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships and is the second best recorded in NCAA Division III so far this season.

Women’s Track & Field Competes At Hamline Capitol City Championships

The Gustavus women’s track team took part in the Capitol City Championships hosted by Hamline University on Thursday in St. Paul. There no team scores kept at the meet, as Sam Broderius, Janey Helland, and Sarah Baker all tallied wins for Gustavus.
