Numerous Gusties Vying for State Amateur Baseball Titles

Here in Minnesota, amateur baseball – better known as “town ball” – is quenching the thirst of many for live action sports. The Minnesota Baseball Association recently released state tournament brackets for its three classes and 15 current Gustavus baseball players have the opportunity to play for a state championship.

Hanson Named MIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week

Jack Hanson (So., Minnetonka) went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored in the Gustavus baseball team's 13-2 victory over Marian last Thursday. The sophomore first baseman tallied two singles, a double, and a walk in the game. For his performance, Hanson has been named MIAC Hitter of the Week. 

Stockwell Signs Professional Baseball Contract with Sioux Falls

Recent Gustavus graduate and baseball pitcher Adam Stockwell `19 (Apple Valley, Minn.) today will sign a contract with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. Stockwell will arrive in Sioux Falls today and is likely to pitch in tonight’s home game against the Kansas City T-Bones, which starts at 7:05 p.m. at the 51-year old Sioux Falls Stadium.

Clemensen, O’Neil Earn MIAC Elite 22 Awards

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) recognized some of its best and brightest spring sport student-athletes on Monday with the announcement of the spring sports Elite 22 Awards. Gustavus was well represented as Carter Clemensen (So., Cologne, Minn.) received the baseball Elite 22 Award and Michael O’Neil (Jr., Edina, Minn.) took home the men’s tennis honor.

Baseball Garners Four All-MIAC Honors, Baker Named Coach of the Year

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2019 baseball awards Tuesday and five Gusties were recognized. Sam Archer (Sr. Zimmerman, Minn.), Adam Stockwell (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.), Cole Pengilly (So., Le Sueur, Minn.), and Matt Berkner (Sr., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) were named All-Conference, while Brad Baker was selected as the Jim Dimick Coach of the Year.

Baseball Loses Twice in MIAC Playoff Championship

The Gustavus baseball team's season came to an end Saturday with a pair of losses to Saint John's in the MIAC playoff championship. The Gusties dropped game one 4-3 and game two 4-1, finishing the season 25-13. 

Baseball Beats Saint John’s 9-5, Advances to MIAC Title Game

The Gustavus baseball team busted out the bats Friday afternoon at CHS Field, collecting 13 hits in a 9-5 MIAC semifinal win over Saint John’s. The Gusties advance to the MIAC Championship without a loss in the double-elimination playoff and will play the winner of Saint John’s and St. Olaf at noon Saturday with an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament on the line.

Stockwell Pitches Complete Game in 5-2 Playoff Win Over Saint Mary’s

Adam Stockwell (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) tossed a complete game gem in a 5-2 Gustavus win over Saint Mary’s in the opening matchup of the 2019 MIAC Baseball Championships at CHS Field. The Gusties, now 24-11, will face the winner of Saint John’s and St. Olaf at 3 p.m. Friday for a chance to go to the title game.

Baseball Set to Begin MIAC Playoffs Thursday

The Gustavus baseball team is set to begin MIAC playoffs Thursday at CHS Field. The top-seeded Gusties (23-11) take on No. 4 seed Saint Mary’s (20-16) at 3 p.m. The second game of the day features No. 2 Saint John’s vs. No. 3 St. Olaf at 6:30 p.m.
