Baseball Swept By Buena Vista After Late Inning Rallies 4-7, 8-11

The Gustavus baseball team lost early leads in both games of a doubleheader against Buena Vista as the Gusties fell 4-7 and 8-11 on Sunday afternoon in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Beavers hit a walk-off three-run home run in the seventh inning to win game one and scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the victory in game two. Gustavus fell to 3-3 overall, while Buena Vista improved its record to 5-1.

The Gustavus men's soccer team jumped out to a 3-1 lead against non-conference foe Buena Vista on Sunday, but then had to hold off a late charge from the Beavers to claim a 3-2 win in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Gusties got goals from Max Malmquist, Fraser Horton, and Chris Golv, while Luke Strom picked up the win in goal. Gustavus is now 12-4-1 on the season.

The Gustavus women's soccer team exploded for eight goals, five in the second half, en route to an 8-0 win over the Beavers from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa Sunday afternoon. Senior Ashley Voigtlander scored the winning goal just 62 seconds into the match and Ashley Ohlson got the shutout in goal for the Gusties. Gustavus improves its season record to 7-7-3, while Buena Vista drops to 2-15-0 on the season.

Volleyball Finishes Border Battle With A 3-1 Record Thanks To Two Wins On Saturday

The Gustavus volleyball team picked up two wins at the IIAC-MIAC Border Battle with 3-1 victories over Coe and Buena Vista in Indianola, Iowa on Saturday. Four players finished with double-digit kills in both matches to help the Gusties overcome injuries to add to the win column. Bridget Burtzel compiled 99 assists and 25 digs for the day. Gustavus improves to 14-6 overall after playing four matches in 24-hours.

Mike Butterworth and Ryan Beduhn scored in the first nine minutes of the second half to give the Gusties the lead after going into halftime tied at 0-0. Goalkeeper Trevor Brown posted his fifth shutout of the season making one save. Gustavus improves to 9-2 overall, while Buena Vista's record drops to 3-7-1.

The Gustavus volleyball team swept both Northwestern and Buena Vista 3-0 Saturday afternoon in St. Peter to extend its current winning streak to five matches. Jen Thelemann, Andrea Kron and Meghan Gehring finished with double-digit kills in both matches. Gustavus improves its overall record to 11-2. The Gusties will get back into MIAC action Friday, September 28 against #6-ranked St. Thomas at 7:00 pm in St. Peter.

Baseball Schedule Changes

Due to the forecast of cold temperatures over the weekend, Saturday's MIAC baseball doubleheader between Gustavus and Hamline has been moved to Monday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Peter. The nonconference baseball doubleheader with Buena Vista originally scheduled for Monday has been moved to Sunday, April 29.

The Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team saw its record fall to 1-1 overall as Buena Vista University picked up a 78-70 non-conference victory Tuesday night on Gus Young Court. Phil Sowden posted game highs with 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Gusties, who will host Carthage Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
