Women’s Hockey Clinches MIAC Title, Shuts Out Saint Mary’s 5-0
The Gustavus women’s hockey team clinched its eighth consecutive MIAC title and 11th overall with a 5-0 shutout over Saint Mary’s University on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The sixth-ranked Gusties improve to 18-1-2 overall and 13-0-1 in the MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 6-11-4 overall and 3-8-3 in league play.
Women’s Hockey Thumps Saint Mary’s 8-2
The Gustavus women’s hockey team dropped its MIAC title-clinching magic number to one with a convincing 8-2 victory over Saint Mary’s in Winona, Minn. Friday night. Picking up two points in the conference standings with a 12-0-1 mark (17-1-2 overall), the Gusties are eight points ahead of the second place team with five games to go. A Gustavus win Saturday would secure its eighth consecutive (11th overall) conference title in the 14-year history of the league.
Women’s Hockey Earns Sweep Over Hamline 2-1
The Gustavus women’s hockey team earned a crucial sweep Saturday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Rink, picking up four points in the MIAC standings with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hamline. This weekend proved that more shots on goal doesn’t always equate to more goals as the Gusties outshot the Pipers 62-to-4 and 123-to-17 in the series, but came away with a pair of one-goal wins. With the sweep, Gustavus moves to 16-1-2 overall and 11-0-1 in the MIAC.
Women’s Hockey Battles Back To Tie Concordia 3-3
For the first time in seven games dating back to Dec. 6, 2011, the No. 4 Gustavus women’s hockey team found itself behind on the scoreboard Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn. But that didn’t deter the Gusties as they battled back from a 3-1 deficit late in the third period and skated to a 3-3 tie with ninth-ranked Concordia.
Women’s Hockey Shuts Out St. Kate’s 7-0
The Gustavus women’s hockey team used a well-balanced attack of a pressure offense and stout defense to claim a 7-0 shutout over St. Catherine University in Burnsville, Minn. Friday night. The No. 5 Gusties improve to 12-0-1 on the year and 7-0-0 in the MIAC as the only remaining undefeated team in all of Division III, while the Wildcats fall to 7-4-2 overall and 3-2-2 in league play.
Women’s Hockey Sweeps Augsburg 7-2, Wins Eighth-Straight
The Gustavus women’s hockey team completed the regular season series sweep over Augsburg Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 win in St. Peter, Minn. Seven different Gusties tallied a goal improving their record to 8-0-0 overall, while picking up two points in the MIAC standings with a 6-0-0 league mark.
