SAINT PETER, Minn. — The Gusties completed the sweep of St. Catherine, wrapping up the series with a 3-0 victory at home. With the win, the No. 2 nationally ranked Gusties improve to 16-2-0 overall and 11-1-0 in MIAC play on the season. The Holland sisters combined for the Gusties’ three goals, finishing the weekend with seven combined points.

Hailey Holland (Sr., Aberdeen, S.D.) was certainly living déjà vu, as she once again scored the Gusties’ first goal of the game, just as she had done the night before. And the uncanny similarities didn’t stop there. Holland’s Saturday goal was a near perfect mirror of Friday’s, as she sped past the St. Catherine defense to net the Gusties’ first in the bottom left corner. The one difference? Holland netted her Friday opener at 15:26 in the period, while her Saturday goal came at 15:28.

Kaitlyn Holland (So., Aberdeen, S.D.) decided that the Gustie scoring would be a family affair, joining sister Hailey to score the Gusties’ second goal and the only goal of the second period. Holland took a feed from Lily Mortenson (Fy., Champlin) and Gianna Gasparini (Fy., Lakeville) to give the Gusties a 2-0 lead heading into the third.

One final goal from Hailey Holland closed out the series, as Holland scored the final goal of the game for the second game in a row. Capitalizing off a loose puck in the St. Catherine crease, Holland slid one just past past the goal line and Wildcat goaltender Elizabeth Kubicek.

The Wildcats struggled to get any offensive opportunities on the Gusties, totaling only seven shots on Katie McCoy (Sr., Grafton, Wis.). With the shutout, McCoy ties the program record for shutouts in a career at 23. Tina Press (Sr., Cottage Grove), who broke 100 career points the night before, added one more point, assisting the final goal of the game to bring her to 103 in her career. Press now holds sole possession of 11th most points in Gustavus women’s hockey history.

The Gusties are back next weekend, hosting Hamline for a 7 p.m. MIAC matchup in Saint Peter on Friday.
