Day Two Results

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus swimming and diving team continued to put the pressure on in the second day of the MIAC Championships. The Gustavus men currently lead with 343 points while the women sit in second place with 250 points. St. Catherine currently holds a 24 point lead.

Sophomore Matt Strom got the Gusties off to a strong start winning the 500 Free, touching the wall at 4:31.73. Sophomore Erik Small continued the momentum to win the 200 IM (1:51.33), both wins proved solid for NCAA B cut qualification.

Newcomer Marit Isaacson was the top Gustie finisher in the 200 IM, placing sixth with a time of 2:07.71.

Junior Andrew Becker won the 50 Free clocking a 20:43 and Kieran Ripken finished right behind him for second place (20.55), with both times qualifying for B cut.

Junior Ellen Hofstede placed second in the 50 free with a 23.38, also under the 2019 selection time. Sophomore Lucy Peterson placed third in the event touching the wall at 23.93.

Closing out the day on a high note, the Gustie men won the 400 Medley Relay with the team of Dane Hudson, Ripken, Peyton Richardson, and Becker (3:22.00) while the women finished in third with the team of Isaacson, Leah Soukup, Hofstede, and Lucy Peterson (3:54.70).

On the diving board, sophomore Emmalyn Dickerson was the top finisher for the Gusties in third place with a score of 396.85.

The Gusties are back in action on Friday morning with prelims beginning at 10:30.
