AUSTIN, Texas – Gustavus men’s soccer player Cole Schwartz (Sr., Jakarta, Indonesia) has been selected to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America Men’s Soccer Second Team, which was announced Wednesday. Academic All-America Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Schwartz, an education major with a 3.96 GPA, played in 19 games this season with 12 starts, ranking second on the team with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. In two seasons with the Gusties, Schwartz accumulated 79 career points on 34 goals and 11 assists. He was named First Team All-America in 2019, along with First Team All-North Region and MIAC All-Conference honors. During the 2019 season, Schwartz tallied 55 points, which was the most by a MIAC player since 1975 and ranked second in Division III. His 24 goals in 2019 were third most in the country. Schwartz has nine game-winning goals and four career hat tricks.

Schwartz garners Gustavus’s 123rd CoSIDA Academic All-America honor, which ranks first in the MIAC (51 more than the next institution), 13th in NCAA Division III, and 38th among all NCAA divisions. Schwartz also earns the men’s soccer program’s sixth Academic All-America award. After earning First Team honors last season, Schwartz joins an elite group of 26 Gustavus student-athletes to earn multiple Academic All-America honors. 

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
