Men’s Basketball Slips Late In 64-68 Loss To Carleton Posted on December 1st, 2021 by

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team traveled to Carleton on Wednesday night and were defeated 68-64. With the loss, Gustavus dips to 3-4 and 1-2 in the MIAC. Kaleb Feahn (Sr., Waseca) led the team with 24 points while Spencer Swanson (Fy., Waconia) recorded eight rebounds.

The Gusties battled in the opening half,  Jordan Schommer (Jr., Merrifield) got Gustavus on the board with a three pointer and Feahn kept the momentum going for an 8-6 lead. The Knights went on a 14-4 run but Feahn retaliated with nine unanswered points and went 6-10 from the field for a 24-20 Gustavus advantage. Carleton went on a 13-9 run to tie the game up to 33-33 at halftime.

The Gusties went 14-29 from the field with 18 rebounds and outscored on bench points 14-8. Feahn impressed, totaling 15 of the Gustie points.

Jake Guse (Jr., Waseca) brought back the Gustie lead right away into the second half with a layup before Feahn, Schommer, Swanson combined for a 41-35 lead. The Knights went on a 8-3 run before Gustavus called a timeout with 12 minutes left. Both teams traded one point leads until the score was evened 56-56. Feahn and Adam Biewen (So., Golden Valley) kept the Gusties in the game tied at 62 with a minute in a half left. Down to the wire, Pete Lundquist (Sr., Rochester) made a hook shot for a one point edge but the Gusties were plagued by turnovers as Carleton came back to hand Gustavus a 68-64 loss.

The Gusties will host their first home game of the season on Saturday against the Macalester Scots with a 3:00 tip-off.
