Women’s Basketball Closes Out Regular Season at Augsburg Saturday Posted on February 21st, 2020 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team will close out its regular season Saturday in a 3 p.m. matchup with Augsburg in Minneapolis. Both teams have punched their ticket to the MIAC playoffs with the Gusties entering the contest 17-7 overall and 13-6 in the MIAC, while they Auggies are 20-4 overall and 16-3 in the conference.

Gustavus Game Notes

The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 74th all-time matchup between the two teams with the Gusties holding the series lead 61-12. The two teams met earlier this season on Jan. 19 with the Gusties taking a 75-64 win.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus enters the contest most recently dropping an overtime game to Saint Mary’s 75-66 on Wednesday. Through 24 games, the Gusties average 72.7 points per contest which ranks third in the MIAC, while they allow 60.8 which ranks fifth. Their  field goal percentage of 45.0 is the third best in the league, while their 34.0 three-point percentage is fourth. Caitlin Rorman paces the offense averaging 16.2 points per game to lead all first-years in the conference. Ava Gonsorowski pours in 13.0 points per contest to go along with a team-best 3.5 assists, while Paige Richert adds 10.6 points and 5.8 rebounds in the post.

Scouting the Auggies: Augsburg comes into the contest most recently falling to Bethel 71-55 Wednesday. Through 24 contests the Auggies are second in the MIAC in points per game with 74.0, while they allow 61.7 which ranks sixth. Augsburg has been solid in the ball control category, averaging 12.7 steals which ranks second in the league, while turning the ball over a league-low 13.1 times per game. Tamira McLemore leads Augsburg averaging 15.6 points per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 3.0 steals. Camryn Speese has been a strong presence inside for the Auggies, averaing 13.0 points and addds a team-best 6.1 boards.
