Men’s Soccer Set for MIAC Bout with Carleton Posted on October 18th, 2019 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team plays host to Carleton at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Gusties enter the contest 11-2 overall with a 5-1 mark in the MIAC, while the Knights enter 10-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.

The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 45th all-time meeting between the Gusties and Knights, with Gustavus currently leading the series 27-10-7. The two teams met last season in Saint Peter on Sept. 12 with the Gusties taking a 2-0 win. Will Richards scored the game-winner in the 17th minute, and Luke Laurich added a goal with 30 seconds left to secure the victory.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is most recently coming off a 4-0 win over Bethel Wednesday. The Gusties have been the top offensive team in the country through 13 contests averaging 3.85 goals per game, with Cole Schwartz notching a MIAC high 14 goals. Raphael Cattelin and Matt Gibbons have also been strong scoring threats, tabbing 30 and 23 points, respectively. Wesley Sanders has started every game in net, making 43 saves while allowing 10 goals for a save percentage of .811.

Scouting the Knights: Carleton comes into the contest following a 4-1 win over Saint Mary’s Wednesday. The Knights have the stingiest defense in the conference allowing a league low goals against average of 0.45, which ranks sixth best in the nation. Carleton’s offense has also been solid, led by the duo of Marco da Cunha and Brennan Johnson with 18 points each. Aaron Forman has started every game in net for the Knights, making 24 saves while allowing six goals for a save percentage of .800.
