Volleyball Heads to UW-Whitewater for Weekend Slate Posted on October 11th, 2019 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team will travel to UW-Whitewater this weekend for three contests starting Friday. The Gusties enter the weekend 10-9 overall and will take on No. 9 UW-Whitewater Friday at 6:30, before squaring off with UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus enters the contest most recently following a 3-1 loss to No. 18 St. Thomas Wednesday. Kate Holtan, who recorded her 1,000th kill in Wednesday’s contest, leads the team through 18 matches, with 238 kills for an average of 3.40 per set which ranks fourth in the MIAC. Kaylyn Johnston has handled a majority of the setting duties this season, totaling 441 set assists, while Hailey Embacher has anchored the back row with 333 digs.

Scouting the Warhawks: UW-Whitewater enters the weekend 15-3, most recently defeating UW-Platteville 3-0 Wednesday. Through 18 contests, Chloe Buescher has been the teams top attacker, notching 179 kills, while Ashton Doll and Rachel Butterfield have 136 and 127, respectively. The Warhawks have three different setters over 125 assists, with KellyAnn Sotiros leading the bunch with 266. Morgan Jensen is the teams libero and has recorded 348 digs this season.

Scouting the Eagles: UW-La Crosse is 8-10 going into the weekend, coming off a five-set loss to UW-River Falls Wednesday. The Eagles have been led this season by Emma Lawrence, who is currently second in the WIAC with 286 kills for an average of 4.71 per set. Abbey Fox is the teams primary setter, with 577 set assists, while Courtney Conway has 222 digs to lead La Crosse.

Scouting the Pointers: UW-Stevens Point has compiled a 17-5 record this season, most recently defeating UW-Oshkosh 3-0. Through 22 matches April Gehl leads the WIAC with 391 kills for an average of 4.71 per set which ranks third in the nation. Ellie Adams has dished out 850 set assists this season to lead the team, while Emma Peterson has 314 digs to lead the Pointers.
