NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s cross country team Saturday took fourth place out of 16 teams at Carleton’s Running of the Cows. UW-La Crosse won the event, Carleton took second, and Minnesota State-Mankato placed third.

Tucker Wallin (Fy., Red Wing) led the Gusties, crossing the line in 26:39.6 for 13th place. Garet Grant (So., Winona), Jack DeGonda (So., Marine on St. Croix), and Ben Wicklund (So., Marine on St. Croix) finished in a pack at 29th, 30th, and 31st, respectively, with times of 26:59.9, 27:01.5, and 27:01.8.

“It was fun to see the guys step it up,” Head Coach Brenden Huber said. “We knew Tucker was an animal and he showed it in the second half of the race. Gilbertson didn’t run today who is normally in our top three, so we weren’t at 100 percent but still a really good showing. The work they put in this summer and their level of commitment is really showing right now.”

Matthew Wilkinson of Carleton won the race in 25:24.7.

Gustavus has next weekend off and then runs in the Wartburg Invitational on Oct. 5
