VICTORIA, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team was back in action as Bethel hosted the 2019 Royal Match at Deer Run Golf Club on Friday. After day one of competition the Gusties are in fourth place of eight teams with a score of 322. The leaders, St. Catherine and Saint Benedict, currently both sit at 316.

Erin [Ericson] (Fy., Onalaska, Wis.) and Sydney [Regalado] (Fy., Rosemount, Minn.) both put together really good rounds today,” said Head Coach Scott Moe. “As a whole we got off to a weak start as we were looking for better results coming out of the gates. There were a lot of very close scores at the top of the leaderboard and we will need four good scores tomorrow and it’s something we’re capable of doing. Erin had been hitting it well but wasn’t able to put it all together and find the bottom of the cup so it was nice to see that out of her today. Sydney played great on the par fives which had been a struggle for her as of late so hopefully we will see the whole picture come together tomorrow.”

Ericson posted a solid round for Gustavus with a 75 which puts her in a three way tie for second place and one stroke off the leader. Regalado carded a 78 which puts her in seventh place while Ellie Brandt (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) shot an 84 to put her in a tie for 20th. Kennedy Sommerfeld (Sr., Litchfield, Minn.) and Emily Kratz (Fy., Edina, Minn.) rounded out the Gustavus five with scores of 85 and 93 respectively. Morgan Bleyhl (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) and Lanie Altmann both golfed as individuals on the day with Bleyhl shooting a 79 to tie her for eighth while Altmann posted a 96.

The Gusties will be back in action tomorrow with their first tee time being at 1:37 p.m.
