SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team concluded their 2018 season on Saturday with a 0-0 tie against Macalester.

On the game, coach Laura Burnett-Kurie said, “It was a tough battle today from both sides. We came out strong and there were a few momentum shifts throughout the game, but overall we ended the season proud of our performance. We walked off with our heads held high knowing that we played for each other.”

The Gusties were strong in net again as Abby Goodno (Fy., Little Canada, Minn.) posted her second consecutive shutout while making seven saves. Lauren Johnson (So., Woodbury, Minn.) led the Gusties in shot as she took three while Chase Miller (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Sophie Olson (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) each recorded a shot on goal.

The Gusties outshot the Scots in regulation by a tally of 10-9 before the Scots rattled off seven shots in the two overtime periods to outshoot the Gusties 16-12 in the contest.

“It’s hard to win, especially in the MIAC as every game is a battle,” said coach Burnett-Kurie. “It just proves that what this senior class has accomplished is something special. Making the playoffs three times, making it to the championship game twice, winning a MIAC Champioship and making an NCAA tournament is truly amazing. Hats off to these seniors for their significant impact on this program.”

The Gusties end the season with an overall record of 5-10-3 and a 2-6-3 record in the MIAC.
