ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to continue Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, hosting Hamline University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff at Gus Young Court. Riding a four-game winning streak and a 3-0 start to conference play, the Gusties own a 5-2 overall record, while the Pipers are 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC.

The Series

Saturday’s game marks the 179th meeting between Gustavus and Hamline on the hardwood, with the Gusties holding a 106-72 advantage in the all-time series. The Pipers swept the Black and Gold last season with 70-66 and 68-63 victories.

Last Time Out

The Gusties earned their fourth consecutive conference win on Wednesday at Augsburg University with a 64-62 comeback victory at Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis, Minn. Down by 12 points four minutes into the second half, Gustavus went on a 17-4 run and held on for the win. Riley Sharbono (Jr., Marshall, Minn.) led Gustavus with 22 points and eight rebounds, shooting 5-11 from the field, 3-7 from beyond the arc, and tied a season-high going 9-11 from the free throw line.Vannis Smith (So., Crystal Lake, Ill.) followed with a season-high 15-point performance, making a team-high seven field goals.

About the Pipers

Hamline most recently dropped a 65-56 decision versus St. Olaf College on Wednesday in St. Paul, Minn., moving its overall record to 3-3 and 1-2 within the conference. The Pipers average 71.7 points per game and rank among the top-five in shooting categories in the conference with a 49.8 field goal percentage (4th/MIAC) and a 43.1 three-point field goal percentage (2nd/MIAC). Senior guard Zach Smith leads Hamline, averaging 13.5 points per game.
