LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its 2017 Division III Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll, in which the Gustavus volleyball team is ranked No. 24.
The Gusties are the sole Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member to appear in the poll, while the reigning national champions from Calvin College are ranked number one. Coming off a national tournament appearance and a MIAC Playoff Championship 24-8 overall season in 2016, the Black and Gold return a large chunk of its contributors from last season. AVCA First-Team All-American and Gustavus Female Student-Athlete of the Year Nora Holtan (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) along with All-America Honorable Mention Lauren Hanson (Jr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) will look to lead Gustavus in 2017.
Gustavus begins its season Sept. 1-2 in Portland, Ore., competing in the Oregon Trail Classic against Williamette, Lewis & Clark, Whitworth, and George Fox.
The AVCA will publish weekly poll updates beginning in September and running through November.
