ST. PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 ranked Gustavus men’s tennis team picked up its 10th and 11th straight victories Saturday at Swanson Tennis Center, defeating the No. 17-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 8-1 and Macalester College 9-0.
The Gusties improve their record to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
“The guys put together a great team effort today,” said Head Coach Tommy Valentini. “We were able to execute our game plan in the doubles against UW-Whitewater to help us get out to a good start. We competed with poise and were resilient in some key moments throughout the singles against a very good team. Against Macalester the energy in the doubles was outstanding and we did well to carry it over into the singles. Today was an important step forward for us. Our young guys were able to build trust in our approach and our leaders calmly embraced some big moments. We’re grateful that the results lined up with how we competed.”
