NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team was led by two goals from Emily Gustafson (Sr., Esko, Minn.) in a 3-0 shutout win at St. Olaf College Friday evening, improving its record to 9-5-2 overall and 5-2-2 in MIAC play.

The Gusties notched the eventual game-winning goal just 18 seconds into the game, as co-captain Erica Power (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) scored her third goal of the season with help Amelia Vosen (Fy., Nowthen, Minn.) and Kristen Cash (Fy., Roseville, Minn.). Power has now tallied five points in the last three games. The rest of the first period would go scoreless as Gustavus led the Oles in shots, 10-3 and took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

A career-best two-goal performance from Emily Gustafson wrote the story of the second period. Just under two minutes into the second frame, Gustafson notched her fourth goal of the season and then added her fifth near the end of the period to give the Gusties a 3-0 cushion over St. Olaf.

Co-captain Diana Draayer (Jr., Deephaven, Minn.) was credited with assists on each of the Gustafson goals to record her second-straight two-assist game. Also earning an assist on the second goal was Tegan Rodriguez (Fy., Sioux City, Iowa) to record her first collegiate point.

The Black and Gold outshot St. Olaf by a mark of 26-8 and only allowed one Ole shot in the second period. For the first time this season, Gustavus was not penalized throughout the game. They also went 0-2 on power play opportunities.

Amanda DiNella (So., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) made eight saves to improve her record to 5-2-1 and tally her third shutout of the season.

Tomorrow afternoon the Gusties return to Don Roberts Ice Rink, looking for the series sweep against St. Olaf. Puck drop is scheduled at 2 p.m.
