RESULTS

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in day one of the Jean Freeman Invitational Friday on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

MEN

The men were highlighted by the performance of Tanner Sonnek, who earned the top finish for the Gusties as he finished in second place in the 100-yard breaststroke. His time of 56.12 breaks the Gustavus 100-yard breaststroke school record time of 56.69 previously set last season by himself. Sonnek also was eighth place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.21.

Sonnek’s school record time is an NCAA Division III “B” standard. Top “B” standard times are invited to nationals after all “A” standard qualifiers have been submitted at the end of the season. The NCAA determines how many individual B standards to invite season by season.

In the relay events, the team of Matt Allison, Adam Peter, Will Clark and Tanner Sonnek earned a seventh place with a time of 1:27.08 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the 400-yard medley relay, the squad of Frankie Zobitz, Tanner Sonnek, Ryan Sklar and Matt Allison posted the best team time at 3:38.99 for a 13th place finish.

In diving, Carson Scholberg competed in three-meter diving and posted a score of 211 to earn a 15th place finish.

Matt Allison finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.69 and was also 12th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.76.

Zach Dawson particpated in the 500-yard freestyle, placing 14th with time of 4:57.12. Ryan Sklar finished 11th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.25.

WOMEN

In two relay events, Gustavus earned eighth and ninth place finishes. The squad of Maggie Webster, Kate Reilly, Nicole Lohman and Kennedy Holwerda was eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.98). Hayley Booher, Haley Pesik, Kate Reilly and Maggie Webster finished ninth in the 400-yard medley with a time of 4:08.27.

In one-meter diving, Bekah Berry turned in a score of 146.25 to finish 28th.

Hayley Booher finished 11th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:14.98.

Kate Reilly finished in 11th place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.69. Her time of 2:00.63 in the 200-yard freestyle was good for 14th place.

Tomorrow the Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams conclude competition at the Jean Freeman Invitational with diving events scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
