Cross Country Returns To Action For Saint John’s Fall Finale Posted on November 4th, 2016 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s cross country squads are set to travel to Collegeville, Minn. Friday to compete in the Saint John’s Fall Finale.

The men and women are both set to take off at 5 p.m.

In the final USTFCCCA Regional Rankings, the Gustie men cracked the top-10 of the Central Regional poll, sitting at No. 7. St. Olaf is ranked No. 1, Saint John’s at No. 5, and St. Thomas is ranked No. 10.

Last weekend the Gustavus cross country teams at the MIAC Championships in St. Paul, Minn.

The Gustie men took home their best team finish since 1992, placing in third. St. Olaf finished in first place to earn their fifth consecutive conference title. Saint John’s came in second place.

Thomas Knobbe (Sr., Decorah, Iowa) led the Gusties with an 8k time of 26:16.2, finishing in fourth place out of 208 competitors. Co-captain Evan Jones (Sr., Pella, Iowa) wasn’t far behind Knobbe, running in to a sixth place finish with a time of 26:18.8. Co-captainCarston Dammann (Sr., Lake City, Minn.) was next in line for Gustavus as he sprinted to a 13th place finish with at time of 26:46.6. For their performances, Knobbe, Jones, and Dammann were named to the MIAC All-Conference Team.

Alex Wischnack (So., Norwood Young America, Minn.) finished just over 10 seconds behind Dammann at 26:57.5, good for 22nd place. Wischnack was recognized as an All-Conference Honorable Mention honoree for his performance.

The women finished 11th of 12 teams. St. Thomas scored 50 points to take the first place crown.

Sadie Novak-Klug (Jr., Waseca, Minn.) recorded the top-finish for the Gusties as she ran to a 19th place finish out of 248 competitors with a 6k time of 23:51.3. For her performance, Novak-Klug was honored with a MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention.
