Women’s Soccer Heads Back Into MIAC Play At St. Kate’s Posted on October 21st, 2016 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team heads back into Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as it travels to St. Paul, Minn. Saturday afternoon to take on St. Catherine University.

The 9-4-1 (4-3-1 MIAC) Wildcats host the 8-5-2 (4-4 MIAC) Gusties at 1 p.m.

Last time out

The Gusties are coming off two non-conference games against Wartburg College and the University of Wisconsin-Stout. After falling to Wartburg 3-0 at Gustie Soccer Field on Sunday, Gustavus traveled to UW-Stout Wednesday night and escaped with a 2-1 win. Maddison Ackiss (Sr., Fairbanks, Alaska) tallied two goals to post her third and fourth goals in just the last three games. Her two-goal game on stood as her third two-goal game this season and the sixth multi-goal game of her career. Ackiss leads the Gusties with seven goals and three assists on the season. Goalkeeper Ashley Becker (So., Farmington, Minn.) leads the MIAC in saves with 73 on the season. 

The series

Saturday’s game marks the 16th all-time meeting between Gustavus and St. Catherine. The Gusties own a 8-5-2 overall record over the Wildcats. Last season, St. Kate’s defeated the Gusties by a score of 2-1 at Gustie Soccer Field.

For the foes

St. Kate’s most recently lost at Augsburg College Thursday night by a score of 3-1. Senior Hannah Okerstrom leads the Wildcats and sits among the top of the leading scorers in the MIAC with 12 goals and four assists for 28 points. She also leads the MIAC with 92 shots. Goalkeepers Shelby Fehringer and Tayler Koop have shared time in goal for the Wildcats. Koop has posted 37 saves to Fehringer’s 32 and Koop leads St. Kate’s with a 1.74 goals against average.
