COON RAPIDS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team wrapped up its fall season Monday with a second place finish at the MIAC Championships, carding a 297-302-298 (897) at Bunker Hills Golf Club. Saint John’s won the league championships with a 298-284-297 (879), while Bethel took third with a 302-303-300 (905).

Sam Olson of Saint John’s won individual medalist honors with a 72-68-75 (215).

Chris Captain (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) earned his second All-Championship Team award after tying for third place, carding a 72-75-74 (221). In his first appearance at the league championships, Ben Hauge (Fy., Ramsey, Minn.) tied for ninth place, earning All-Championship honors, with a 75-76-74 (225). Alec Aunan (Jr., Rock Island, Ill.) tied for 11th place with a 78-72-78 (228), Sam Majka (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) tied for 13th with a 77-81-71 (229), while Max Savini (So., Ramsey, Minn.) tied for 20th with a 73-79-81 (233).

“We came out strong today and got some birdies early in the round,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “We missed some putts as we were making the turn, and then the winds started to pick up making it a little more challenging to make birdies. Overall, I was very pleased with our performance, we battled very hard. I firmly we believe we didn’t lose the tournament, but rather Saint John’s won it with their performance on day two.”
