Men’s And Women’s Golf Conclude Fall Campaign At MIAC Championships Posted on October 6th, 2016 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s golf teams are traveling to Coon Rapids, Minn. this weekend to compete in the 2016 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships held Saturday, Oct. 8 through Monday, Oct. 10 at Bunker Hills Golf Course.

The three-day, 54-hole MIAC Golf Championships get underway on Saturday. The men tee of at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women at 10:50. Sunday’s second round has the same tee times, and on Monday the men and women both begin at 9 a.m.

At the 2015 MIAC Championships, the Gustie men tied for third place. Max Savini (So., Ramsey, Minn.) led the Gusties, finishing four-over-par through three rounds to tie for third place, earning a spot on the All-Championship Team.

The Gustavus men’s team moved into the top-25 in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, released September 30. The Gusties sat at No. 25 with 85 points. Through 13 rounds in 2016, the men are tied for first in the MIAC with Saint John’s University for a team-low round of 283 (-5), at the first round of the Twin Cities Classic. The Black and Gold also rank second in the MIAC with a team scoring average of 301.8, not far behind Saint John’s. Alec Aunan (Jr., Rock Island, Ill.) owns the lowest round in the MIAC, his career-best score of 67 (-5) in the first round of the Twin Cities Classic. Chris Captain (Jr.,Rochester, Minn.) ranks second in the conference with a scoring average of 74.2.

In last year’s championships the Gustie women placed sixth with a three-round total score of 1014 (+150). In 2016, the Gustavus women have recorded three top-five team finishes, including a first place title at the Georgianni Blugold Invitational, September 12. Mae Meierhenry (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) has paced the Gusties along with Jessica Nelson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.). Meierhenry and Nelson both earned medalist honors with first and third place finishes at the Blugold Invite. Each own an 81.1 scoring average through eight rounds of play during the fall campaign.
