Track & Field Teams Compete At MNSU Twilight Meet Posted on May 4th, 2016 by

MANKATO, Minn. – Members of the Gustavus Adolphus Colleg men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Minnesota State University, Mankato Twilight Meet on Wednesday evening. The women’s team accounted for 15 top-5 finishes, while the men earned seven, as each went up against fields of primarily Division II competition.

The Gustie women were led in the 5,000 meter run, as the Black and Gold accounted for each of the top-3 finishers. Marit Sonnesyn won the race with a time of 18:37, while Mata Agre and Lauren Shurson came in second and third, respectively in the same race. Mikaela Algren and Sadie Novak-Klug also turned heads in the distance runs, as the pair took second and third, respectively in the 1,500 meter run.

Other notable finishers on the women’s side included Hayley Solheim earning silver in the shot put, Bailey Van Den Heuvel taking second in the javelin and fourth in the hammer throw, Lydia Hayes and Abigail Schnabel taking fourth and fifth, respectively in the 800 meter dash, Mallory Butchko and Kelsey Harms placing third and fifth, respectively in the pole vault, and Jordan Schwakopf taking fifth in the 400 meter hurdles.

On the men’s side, Carston Damman led the way with a gold medal finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing in a time of 9:42.46. Ryley Sandberg was a third place finisher in the 800 meter run, Sam ReMine earned a fifth place finish in the 400 meter dash, Bennet Woltjer placed fifth in the pole vault, Troy Ektnitphong took fifth in the triple jump, and Will Neuenfeldt placed fourth in the shot put.

Gustavus is in action next when it takes part in the Hamline Unsaintly Meet this Friday and Saturday.
