ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s tennis team earned its 28th straight MIAC Regular Season Championship with an 8-1 victory over Carleton College on Saturday afternoon at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Gusties finish their 2016 regular season with an overall record of 22-7 and an MIAC mark of 9-0. With the win, Gustavus locks down the No. 1 seed in the MIAC Playoffs and will host the winner of the No. 4 versus No. 5 seed matchup in the semifinal round on Friday, May 6 at 4:30 p.m. in St. Peter.

The MIAC Championship is the 49th for the Gustavus men’s tennis team since 1940 and the seventh for Coach Tommy Valentini since taking over the program in the 2009-10 season. Within their run of 28 straight league titles, the Gusties have won 260 consecutive MIAC matches.

“I’m very proud of our guys for the effort today and all season,” said Valentini. “It was a true team effort against a strong Carleton team. We feel fortunate for the result today and grateful to continue a great Gustavus tennis tradition. We look forward to a great week of practice and to an exciting postseason.”
