ST. PETER, Minn. – Junior women’s swimmer Hayley Booher (Warren, Vt.) and senior men’s tennis player Andres Saenz (Cancun, Mexico) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College February Female and Male Student-Athletes-of-the-Month, presented by Thrivent Financial and voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

Booher started the month at the Minnesota Challenge where she was part of the third place 800 freestyle relay team, touching the wall in 8:02.55. That was just a warmup, though, as Booher saved her best performances for the MIAC Championships the following week. On day one, Booher was the highlight of the night as she notched a first place finish in the 200 individual medley with a national B-qualifying time of 2:05.84. Booher’s time also set a new MIAC record as she defended her title from last season. Booher then teamed up to take third place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:54.03. On day two, the Rice Memorial product continued to impress as she won the 400 IM with an NCAA B-qualifying time of 4:30.4, breaking Alissa Tinklenberg’s school record by 0.21 seconds, which was set in 2013. Booher then took second as part of the 200 medley relay team in 1:45.54, qualifying for NCAA B. She was also a part of the third place 800 freestyle relay team with a time of 1:55.37. On the final day, Booher took third place in the 200 backstroke at 2:03.85.

Parents: Juan Carlos Saenz and Maria del Carmen Hoyo of Cancun, Mexico

Saenz started the month by winning the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles against Augustana on Feb. 6. One week later, Saenz won twice at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles against UW-Eau Claire and Saint John’s. On Feb. 20, the Gonzalo Guerroro product once again claimed victory at his No. 2 singles spot in straight sets, but lost his lone match of the month at No. 1 doubles against St. Thomas. Saenz then wrapped up the month on Feb. 27 as the Gusties hosted two MIAC matches against Bethel and Concordia. Saenz won twice at his No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles spots to finish the month with a 6-0 record at singles and 5-1 mark at doubles.
