ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s swimming and diving team suffered a 181-118 setback to St. Olaf College on Friday evening at the Vic Gustafson Pool.

“What a difference a week makes,” said Coach Jon Carlson. “The guys swam outstanding and while they came up short, the men had as impressive a meet as they have against St. Olaf for quite a few years. We talk about swimming to inspire, and the men certainly had numerous individuals step up and inspire tonight in several races, especially Jeff Nelson in the 100 freestyle.”

Combining for a pair of first place finishes were Jeff Nelson (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Tanner Sonnek. Sonnek dominated the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:10.12, while Nelson took care of business in the 100 freestyle after turning in a time of 49.20. Nelson also took second place in the 200 breaststroke with a time 1:50.72, and Sonnek placed second in the 200 IM after finishing in 2:03.94.

The Gustavus swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool on Friday, Nov. 20 for the Gustie Sprint Invite that will be held in St. Peter.
