SHAKOPEE, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team turned in its best performance of the season this past weekend, as it took second of 19 total teams at the Twin Cities Classic which was held at three different locations across the metro area. The Gusties finished with a team score of 882, just two strokes behind tournament champion University of St. Thomas.

“I thought we had a great tournament,” said Coach Scott Moe. “We got better each day and hosting at two-under par was really good.”

Gustavus was led by first-year Max Savini (Anoka, Minn.) who finished tied for second after finishing on par with a 216. After scoring a 75 on the tournament’s second day, Savini improved by six strokes in the third round to come away with a 69 to get back to par. Chris Captain (So., Rochester, Minn.) was next up for Gustavus, scoring a 219 to finish in a tie for seventh and Matt Spier (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) was third with a 222, giving the Gusties three players inside the top-10.

“Placing three players in the top-10 in this deep of a field was impressive,” said Moe.

Alec Aunan (So., Rock Island, Ill.) and Andrew Krasaway (Sr., Hermantown, Minn.) rounded out the Gustavus scoring with scores of 227 and 232, finishing in ties for 25th and 40th.

The Gusties will look to carry their momentum into the MIAC Championships which will be held this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

“I like the direction we’re going heading into the conference championships,” said Moe. “We need to have a great week of practice and stay focused headed into the weekend.”
