Jordan, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team is neck-and-neck with Saint John’s University following the opening round of the Bobby Krig Invitational held on Sunday at the Ridges at Sand Creek. Gustavus and Saint John’s paced the 15-team field with matching 300s (+12) on the par 72 course. Augsburg College rounded out the top three in third with a 302, while Saint John’s second team and UW-Eau Claire sit closely behind in fourth with 304s (+16).

“We got off to a good start for a three round event,” said Head Coach Scott Moe after today’s round. “The course played tough all day but we managed to battle through and put together a nice round. Chris Captain, Andrew Brandt, and Andrew Krasaway turned in nice rounds and are off to solid starts. The guys were able to grind out a good team score today and because of that we are in great position heading into tomorrow. I’m looking forward to 36 holes of great golf tomorrow on our home course and am hoping we can bring home the Bobby Krig Trophy.”

Chris Captain (Fr., Rochester, Minn.) leads the Gusties and ranks second overall after shooting an even par 72. Andrew Brandt (Jr., Medina, Minn.) is next in line with a one-over 73 to place him fourth overall. Andrew Krasaway (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.) sits alongside Brandt in fourth to lead Gustavus’s second team.

Rounding out Gustavus’s top lineup was Alec Aunan (Fr., Rock Island, Ill.) in 11th with a 73 (+3), Matt Spier (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) in 37th with an 80 (+8), and Matt Rastetter (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) in 43rd with an 81 (+9).

Leading the field is Collin Seal of Saint John’s who fired a one-under 71. Johnnie Mitch Pfingsten sits alongside Captain with an even par 72.

The Bobby Krig Invitational will come to a close on Monday with 36 holes at the Le Sueur Country Club in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Play will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
