MANKATO, MINN. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team leads Minnesota State University, Mankato 318-327 following day one of the Mankato Spring Invitational held Saturday in Mankato.

“I thought we scored pretty well despite missing some greens throughout the round,” said assistant coach Randy Stuckey. “If we can improve our approach shots, we can turn in a really good score tomorrow. The course was a good test with challenging small greens.”

Each of the Gusties’ five golfers were within four shots of each other, with senior Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) leading the way with a 78. McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) was next with a 79, followed by Lauren Johnson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) with an 80, Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) with an 81 and Jordy Drenttel (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) with an 82.

Jessica Nelson (Fy., Wayzata, Minn.) also turned in a low-80s score on the Gusties’ second team, as she registered an 81.

The Gusties and Mavericks will conclude play tomorrow in St. James, Minnesota.
