In his first season of collegiate tennis, Mohanad Al-Houni has been brilliant, helping his team to an overall record of 11-6 (including a 4-0 mark in the MIAC) and a No. 14 national ranking. After earning two key victories at No. 2 singles over No. 22 UW-Whitewater and top MIAC foe St. Olaf College to begin the month, Al-Houni has seen his role on the squad intensify, as he was promoted to No. 1 singles for the Gusties’ last two matches played. Most recently, the Libya native was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at the top spot against No. 16 Williams College on the team’s spring break trip to California, bringing his overall singles record to 3-1 during March. In doubles, Al-Houni and partner Brad Entwistle (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) have seen just as much success, as they went 4-1 at the No. 2 position over the course of the month, including victories against nationally-ranked opponents in UW-Whitewater and Coe College.

Michaela Schulz has been a woman on fire on the tennis court as of late, as she currently owns an eight-match win streak in  singles dating back to February 28, including a 6-0 mark during the month of March. The sophomore began the month with two three-set victories over Division II Augustana College and Division I Nebraska-Kearney on March 7 and 8, respectively. Schulz followed that up the next weekend with a key win over MIAC foe St. Catherine, helping the team remain undefeated in conference play. In doubles action, Schulz and partner Lizzy Stanczyk (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) seem to have found chemistry, as the pair has gone a perfect 5-0 in March, dropping just 11 games in the process. To top off her outstanding month, the Elk River native was named MIAC Women’s Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week on March 17, the third Gustie to have earned that accolade this season.
