Mankato – The Gustavus Adolphus indoor track and field teams competed in the Ted Nelson Classic held Saturday, Feb. 7 in Meyers Field House located on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Against a field comprised of both NCAA Division II and III institutions, three Gusties posted gold medal performances. Leading the way on the track was senior Caitlin Fermoyle (Mendota Heights, Minn.) who won the 3,0000-meter run with a time of 10:28.78. Lauren Shurson (Jr., Chanhassen, Minn.) also reached the podium in the 3,000-meter with a third place finish in 11:12.73.

Sarah Swanson (Jr., Fairbanks, Alaska) and Elizabeth Weiers (Sr., Le Center, Minn.) continued their early-season success with a pair of individual event wins in the throws. Swanson took the shot put with a throw of 41-feet 7.75-inches and added a third place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 47-feet 3.75-inches.

Weiers rounded out the Gusties’ top performers with a gold medal showing in the weight throw with a toss of 53-feet 6.25 inches. The Le Center product’s toss on Saturday tied Gustavus’s program record held by Diana Scott and set in 2009.

The Gustavus indoor track and field teams will be in action next weekend when they travel to Northfield to compete in the Carleton Meet of Hearts on Saturday, Feb. 14.
