Men’s Swimming & Diving Falls 189-91 To St. Thomas In Season’s Final Dual Posted on January 25th, 2015 by

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team suffered a loss to St. Thomas in its final dual of the season on Saturday at the Vic Gustafson Pool.

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s swimming and diving suffered a 189-91 loss to the University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at the Vic Gustafson Pool. In what was the final dual and home meet of the 2014-15 season for the Gusties, they turned in a four individual event wins.

Swimming in his final meet in waters of the Vic, Zac Solis (Sr., Centennial, Minn.) led the way on Senior Day with two first place swims and another second place finish. Solis once again proved why he is one of the top distance swimmers in the conference, turning in gold medal swims in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.35 and 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:02.95. The senior also added a second place finish in the 100 free with a time of 49.88.

Also providing wins for the Black and Gold was Kurt Youngdahl (Sr., Deephaven, Minn.) and Jabob Stern (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.). Youngdahl out-touched the field in the 50 free in 22.02 and also took second in the 200 free in 1:50.33. Stern swam a 2:16.64 to take the 200 breaststroke and a 1:00.61 to finish runner-up in the 100 breaststroke.

Rounding out Gustavus’s top swims of the day was a pair of second place marks registered by Ross Larson (Sr., Brookings, S.D.) in the 100 backstroke (55.90) and 200 backstroke (2:02.11).

The Gustavus swimming and diving teams will be in action once more before the upcoming MIAC Championships on Feb. 19-21. The Gusties will travel to the Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota for the Minnesota Challenge set to take place Feb. 6-7.
