Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s swimming and diving team suffered a 188-92 setback to St. Olaf College on Friday night at the Skoglund Natatorium.

“The men turned in a lot of good races and some fast swims,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “I’m especially pleased with the performances of Zac Solis and Dante Colucci who both set a tremendous tone for the weekend. I’m excited to see our work ethic begin to pay off but it’s a long season and we have a ways to go.”

Combining for four fist place finishes was Zach Solis (Sr., Centennial, Colo.) and Dante Colucci (Jr., Summit, N.J.). Solis dominated the distance races with golds in the 500 freestyle (4:52.79) and 1,000 freestyle (10:22.46), while Colucci took care of business in the backstroke by winning the 100 (55.08) and 200 (2:00.84).

Adding a pair of runner-up swims to the mix was Kurt Youngdahl (Sr., Deephaven, Minn.) who went 21.95 in the 50 free and 48.30 in the 100 free.

Jeff Nelson (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) placed third in the 50 free (23.06), Ross Larson (Sr., Brookings, S.D.) finished third in the 200 backstroke (2:06.37), and Jacob Stern (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) came in third in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.79).

The Gustavus swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 15 when they close the weekend at the Morningside Invitational at 1:00 p.m. in Sioux City, Iowa.
