Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams took part in their first team-scored meet of the season on Saturday at the Meet of Hearts hosted at Carleton College.  The Gustavus men’s team finished second out of five teams with 128.5 points, while the women took fourth out of six teams with 108.5 points.

Hamline won the men’s competition with a score of 185.5.  Host Carleton claimed first in the women’s competition with a score of 165.

The men’s squad recorded five top three finishes in the field events.  Ryan Obele (Jr., Le Sueur, Minn.) turned in the top finish of the meet by winning the weight throw with a toss of 53-feet.

Sean O’Connell (Fr., St. Peter, Minn.) posted two top three performances, finishing second in the triple jump with a mark of 40-feet six-inches and third in the long jump with a leap of 20-feet 3.75-inches.

Rounding out the top field competitors was Jeffrey Dubose (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) and Pat Tracy (Sr., St. Louis Park, Minn.).  Dubose placed runner-up in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 14-feet 1.25-inches, and Tracy came in third in the shot put with a throw of 42-feet 1.5-inches.

Leading the way on the track for the Gustie men was Tanner Davenport (Sr., Ham Lake, Minn.) and Jordan Lovestrand (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.).  Davenport finished third in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:35.42, while Lovestrand took third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.25.

On the women’s side, Nevada Wendlandt (Sr., Maplewood, Minn.) tallied the team’s lone event win.  Wendlandt cleared the bar at 11-feet 5.74-meters in the pole vault to take gold.  Behind Wendlandt in the pole vault was Kelsey Harms (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) who took second with a mark of 10-feet six-inches.

Also in the field events, Anna McDevitt (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) finished third in the triple jump (33’ 8”), and Elizabeth Weiers (Jr., Le Center, Minn.) placed third in the weight throw (45’ 1”).

Pacing the women on the track was Hayley Kemper (So., Prior Lake, Minn.) with a second place run in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.39.  Caitlin Fermoyle added a third place mark in the 3,000-meter run after crossing the finish line in 10:37.10.

The Gustavus track and field teams will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 22 when they travel to Collegeville, Minn. for the Saint John’s Invite.
