MIAC Announces Winter And Spring Academic All-Conference Teams Posted on July 17th, 2013 by

St. Paul – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honored the league’s top performers in athletics and in the classroom with the announcement of the 2012-13 MIAC Winter and Spring Academic All-Conference teams.  More than 450 winter and spring student-athletes earned the honorable distinction, while the total number of 2012-13 honorees ranks as the most in conference history.

Amongst the list of 453 Academic All-Conference selections, 51 student-athletes were representatives of Gustavus Adolphus College.  This year’s total number of Academic All-MIAC honorees is the second-highest total in conference history and just one away from the league’s record. A total of 454 student-athletes were honored in 2010-11.

However, combined with the record-setting 330 Academic All-Conference selections in the fall, 2012-13’s cumulative total of 783 Academic All-Conference selections are the most in MIAC history by a significant margin. The previous high – also recorded in 2010-11 – was 759. To earn the distinction, student-athletes must meet a combination of academic and athletic criteria.

Academically, student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for MIAC Academic All-Conference recognition. Athletically, student-athletes in team sports must compete in 50 percent of their team’s regular-season varsity contests. The team sports eligible were baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s hockey, softball and men’s and women’s tennis.

Swimming and diving student-athletes must qualify for the conference finals to be eligible and both indoor and outdoor track and field student-athletes must finish in the top eight in an individual event or be on a top-three relay team at the MIAC Championships to be eligible for the honor. Though their split season continued this spring, golf student-athletes were honored earlier this year as a fall sport.

MIAC Academic All-Conference honors are announced twice annually, after the completion of the fall and spring academic semesters. The 2012-13 winter and spring Academic All-Conference honorees are listed below, classified alphabetically first by sport, then school.
