Women’s Indoor Track & Field Has Strong Showing At Macalester Pre-MIAC Meet Posted on February 23rd, 2013 by

St. Paul – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s indoor track and field team got its final taste of competition before the 2013 MIAC Championships on Friday night by taking part in the Macalester Pre-MIAC Meet held on the Clement Track at the Leonard Center.

Leading the way for the Gustie women with victories at the meet was Jenny Hendricks (Sr., New Prague, Minn.) and Rebecca Hare (So., Albany, Minn.) on the track, and Ally Voss (Sr., Wausau, Wis.) and Sarah Swanson (Fy., Fairbanks, Alaska) in the field events.  Hendricks won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.29, and Hare took the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:35.37.  Voss cleared 11-feet 1-inch to win the pole vault, while Swanson recorded a toss of 41-feet 2.25-inches to win the shot put.  Following Swanson in the shot was Gustavus’s Hayley Solheim (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) in second (41-1.5) and Emily Ford (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) in third (40-8.25).

Second place finishers on the track included Haley Kemper (So., Prior Lake, Minn.) and Lyndsi Schwichtenberg (Jr., Owatonna, Minn.).  Kemper went 1:00.67 in the 400-meter dash and Schwichtenberg crossed the line in 5:27.43 in the mile.

Courtney Branch (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) finished third behind Schwichtenberg in the mile (5:41.22), and Caitlin Fermoyle (So., Mendota Heights, Minn.) rounded out the Gusties’ top finishers on the track with a third place finish in the 3,000-meter run (10:39.16).

Also in the field events, Lauren Rothschiller (Sr., Chaska, Minn.) placed runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 35-feet 1.25 inches, and Leah Brossoit (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) came in third behind her with a mark of 34-feet 6.25-inches.  Nevada Wendlandt (Jr., Maplewood, Minn.) cleared 4-feet 11-inches in the high jump to finish second as well.

The Gustavus indoor track and field teams will now gear up for the 2013 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships set to take place next weekend at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.  The meet will begin on Friday, March 1 and conclude on Saturday, March 2.  The MIAC Multis will take place on Thursday, Feb. 28 before the conference meet begins.
